The “House Critters” get Breakfast      

 

  Henrietta woke up and noticed that the humans were not there. This was not good!  All of the house critters would be hungry and there was no one to feed them. Henrietta Bobbie Bunny was the eldest and felt responsible for them all. She went to find them so they could figure out how to get some breakfast.

 She knew just where to look and shortly found Big Bunny, Rainy Reindeer, Ducky Duck and Blue Booby. The bunnies hopped, the reindeer pranced, and the water birds waddled out of the living room through the dining room into the kitchen. Ducky flew up onto the counter and let out a sad quack.  He told the rest that nothing had been left out for them to eat! This caused a loud whimper from all the critters. Henrietta said “it will not help to whine, we need to all put our thinking caps on and come up with a plan.”As you can imagine there were lots of plans, some of them were very silly, and lots of talking about each of them. Of course each critter knew their plan was the best. Finally it was decided to combine plans and get cereal out of the cabinet above the stove. This was not an easy task as critters do not have thumbs and opening the cabinet would give them another chance to cooperate.

  Big Bunny hopped up on a chair, then onto the table, and then over to the counter. He thought this was very brave of him, but his bravest action was what happened next. He could not reach the cabinet, so they decided that with Ducky already up on the counter he could move over to the stove and help Big Bunny. Ducky settled down on his belly then Big Bunny climbed onto his back which made a very funny looking critter! Now came the tricky part, in order to reach the cabinet door Ducky stood up and then Big Bunny had to stand up while balancing on Ducky’s back.

There were lots of happy critters’ noises when Big Bunny got a paw behind the door and swung it open to reveal four boxes of cereal. Well you can guess what happened next, they could not decide which cereal they wanted for breakfast. Once again they all needed to talk about which box each of them liked and why it was the best choice. They never did all agree, but finally the majority picked frosted flakes and Big Bunny went for it.

  Big Bunny had both paws reached out as far as they would go to pull the box off the shelf just when Ducky sneezed. The box of cereal went flying out of the cabinet and crashed onto the floor sending the critters scattering in all directions. Big Bunny slid off Ducky landing on the stove with a bang and pushing Ducky off the stove. Ducky got excited and flapped his wings hitting Rainy and Blue Booby on his way to the floor. The box had come open and cereal was spread out all over the kitchen floor. Big Bunny got down from the counter in the reverse order of how he got up on it in the first place. Then they all had breakfast and cleaned up the floor at the same time!
